Sunday October 30th - Autumn Trailquest - Venue TBC

Lll future events in the Manx Trailquest series will be administered through the (much improved) BMBO web site.

The events are on their events list and you can enter on-line from there.

Entry fee includes 1 event map per team.

Online entry is mandatory for the events.  Registration & Give-out should therefore be very quick & easy.

Please enter in good time... Final closing date is usually the Thursday night (7pm) prior to the event.

You first need to go to the go to the BMBO web site and check that your [free] associate membership is up to date for 2011.

Note that, after you have "joined" you must respond to the confirmation email that will be sent to you before your membership will be finalised.

Once you have done this, entry to the event is easy. Just look at the events list and choose the appropriate Manx event(s). Click on "Details" end then the "online entry" link. As you are a BMBO member, all you have to do is put in your name (or partial name) and "search". No need to enter your details all over again - as this will be taken from your membership details.

We can normally only accept a maximum of 100 entries and you must enter in advance to secure a place.   If you really, really cannot get an entry in on-line then please contact us giving your full name, DoB, etc in advance.

  General MBO Hints & Tips......Tips......

MBO (formerly known as Trailquest] is basically "Orienteering on Bikes". You have a fixed time to visit as many control points as possible before getting back to the finish.
It sounds simple - but the controls are all worth a different number of points - so it is a challenge to plan the most effective route in the time available - it's fun !

If you are late (i.e. over the time allowed), penalty points will be deducted as follows;
1-5 minutes late = 1 point per minute
5-10 mins late = 2pts/minute
11-15 mins late = 5pts/minute
16-30 mins late = 10pts/minute
Over 30 minutes late = No score! Bad news - so you don't want to be this late....

You will be provided with an A3 colour pre-printed map that has all the checkpoints marked on it. You are advised to bring a waterproof map case in case it is wet.

BMBO rules suggest that you pack a whistle & compass as well as normal tools etc. You should carry these as an additional safety aid.
You can visit as many checkpoints as you like - and in any order.
Mobile Phones: Please carry your mobile with you whilst on the event. At times you may be in remote areas and your mobile is your best bet for summoning assistance and/or informing us if you are in trouble. Put your mobile number on the entry sheet & make sure that it is turned on. Also make a note of the emergency contact number - 07624-473589. This is shown on the map as well.
It is a good idea to mount a map holder on the handlebars. But you should take extra care when reading the map on the move!
Otherwise, you can just consult the map when you need to.

Teams will now be issued with a pair of dibbers - and must both dib at a checkpoint for it to count. They must also dib within one minute of each other! If you exceed the 1-minute limit between team punches then you will only be credited with 50% of the score for that checkpoint!

You MUST return to the finish if you retire. This is both to let us know that you are safe - and also to return your SPORTident electronic tag (dibber).

If you know you are going to be late back (e.g. over 30 minutes late) please let us know - otherwise we may have to contact search & rescue services - and this could mean that others have to come out looking for you.

Do not lose your dibber - you will be charged the current replacement value (currently around £35)  if you lose them. They can be attached on either a neck lanyard or on a wristband (provided). Teams will use non-removable Tyvek wristbands!
Younger riders: Trailquest is a mixture of riding on tracks and road. Riders under 16 are welcome to take part - but must do so accompanied by a parent or guardian
(i.e. riding as a team of 2).
